PIDCAP: Early diagnosis of Primary Immunodeficiencies in primary care centers

July 2017

This January, newborn screening for Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID) was established in Catalonia. Moreover, and to complete the early diagnosis of Primary Immunodeficiencies (PID), the Unit of Infectious Pathology and Immunodeficiencies in Pediatrics (UPIIP) has promoted the project "Application of a computer algorithm for the early detection of Primary Immunodeficiencies in primary care" that was chosen and approved by the ICS Executive Committee.

This project has been chosen to pass to the portfolio phase by the ICS and was presented on June 30th to the day of open innovation of the ICS.

The project proposes to include a computerized procedure based on a diagnostic algorithm that points out the clinical histories the cases of PID, from a series of warning signs.
The use of the algorithm will detect the warning signs, coded in the system by the primary care physicians, to identify the possible cases of PID, and will allow prevention of complications and an appropriate follow-up. This model yields better results in the patient's quality of life and also in the cost of care.
This model will promote better coordination among primary care professionals and the reference centre.

From the Barcelona PiD Foundation we want to support this project that aims to improve the early diagnosis of PID.
